I purchased these mittens sometime in the late 90's/early 2000's from an artist market in Chicago. In the winter of 2017, I sat on the couch at my mom's house in Indiana and mended the damage that had developed over nearly two decades of wear and use. I was also teaching my oldest daughter (who was 10 at the time) how to mend. These mittens represent the essence of my mending work -- the act of slowing down to repair a loved item, the art of high contrast color choice to celebrate (rather than hide) the damage, and the tradition of passing down an almost forgotten craft.
